Some of your children have been coming home a little dirty. Sorry about that. However, that means they have been having fun learning! They have been little paleontologists digging up bones. Our dirt table had mini dinosaur bones buried in it. Did you know the Maiasaura (sounds like "Maya-saura") means "good mother lizard?" Scientists believe that these duck-billed dinosaurs nested in groups and cared for their young in large dinosaur nurseries.
We played a dinosaur game which helped them with number recognition, counting, comparing, and one-to-one correspondence. The children rolled the number cube, then moved their game piece that many spaces on the board. If they landed on a dinosaur they took a mini dinosaur counter from the dish. Once the dish was empty they counted and compared their set of dinosaurs. The winner was the one with the most dinosaurs. (It really didn't matter who won because their main goal was to empty the dish quickly so they can both get a mini conversation heart candy. The winner got to pick their candy first.)
We finished making the Dinosaur Counting Books. The first set involved cutting pictures of dinosaurs and pasting them to ten frames. The second set they peeled and stuck on stickers. This last set they used ink stampers. All three activities helped them with one-to-one correspondence, counting, number recognition and it helped them strengthen their fine motor muscles.
We had a fun time matching all the donated shoes. The preschool class us up to 62 pairs of shoes. We need more! The pre-k and kindergarten classes are way ahead of us with over a hundred pairs each! Clean out your closets and send them in. We will take gym shoes, slippers, sandals, flip-flops, spikes, boots, etc. It is for a good cause and you will have done some early spring cleaning. It is a win-win situation.
Below are our 10 Frame Dinosaur Puzzles.
Jesus told us that God loves us and will proved for us just same as how God provides for the birds and plants. Trust is the Lord. I have also been stressing the importance of prayer. I told them that it doesn't have to be a formal prayer. It can just be a simple conversation. I talk to God often. I thank Him for a good day. I ask him for help. We made Worry Stones to have as a reminder to ask God for help. When ever you feel worried you are to rub the stone and talk to God. You can talk out loud or quietly in your mind.
I want to share with you a video link that the children love to move along to. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Imhi98dHa5w
