Week of the Young Child is typically celebrated in April. Since Easter/Spring Break was in April we decided to celebrate a little later. It was a busy week. On Monday we finished making our Spring Greetings flower baskets. The children had to cut tulips and leaves to staple on green tubes. We were hoping to deliver the flowers on Friday after Mass but the weather was not very favorable for taking a walk outdoors. We will hopefully go out on Monday to deliver our Spring Greetings.
On Tuesday we gathered by the Holy Family statue outside of church for a mini prayer service in honor of
Fr. George's birthday. We also had a friendly visit from the Chicago Fire Department (Engine 11/Truck 9 Cumberland Firehouse). They were great! One of the firefighters put on all the gear while another explained what each item does to keep them protected. They then let each student go into the firetruck and see what it looks like inside. After that they were able to take an up close look at the fire engine and squirt some water from the hand pumps. Then the long areal ladder was extended and one of the firefighters climbed up the ladder.
Wednesday was Pancakes in Pajamas. They were so excited the minute they walked into the door. First we practiced our songs on stage for the end of the year show and that was probably not the best idea. I am not sure we accomplished much. Then we had our pancakes. Yummy! Thanks Mr. McGovern for helping out. 🙂
Thursday was Literacy Day. After reading a Bible story about Jesus being our Shepherd we made a sheep craft project using paper plates and cotton balls.
On Friday we sang a song after Communion at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. You can view the song on the our Seesaw link.
