We are so lucky to have some apple trees right outside our school. We were able learn about apples and with apples this week. Below we did the popular apple printing with green, yellow and red paint.
We couldn't let the apple theme go by without taste testing some green, yellow and red apples. They really love apples! Some children kept asking me for more the next day. We also put our names on a graph to show our favorite flavor. (However, I think some children chose their favorite color.) 😁
We drew apple trees and used an ink stamper to stamp on some apples. The ink stamper was small, so the children had to use their pincer grasp.
After reading "Ten Apples Up On Top," the children rolled a cube to determine how many green, yellow and red apples to stamp on top of one of the characters in the book.
The we had to test out how difficult it would be if we were to balance an apple on our heads. We also tried some classroom items.
Below, this activity helped with number recognition, one-to-one correspondence and fine motor. The children rolled a numbered cube and put that many clay apples on an apple tree. They then had to determine which of the two trees had more apples. Playing with clay works the muscles in their hands and pinching off the clay helps with their pincer grasp.
We did our first, Following Directions activity. I am not concerned about how neat they colored. I want them to listen for instructions and follow through. This is a slow process and some had troubles waiting but they will get the hang of it.
Our Religion story was about helping. Jesus chose some special helpers (the Disciples) to help spread the news about God and to show God's love. God wants us to do the same. Helping others is also a way to show God's love. We talked about how we helped in the classroom and how we help our parents and how our parents help us.
