With Thanksgiving around the corner, I decided to talk a bit about manners and being thankful. I read, "I Like Being Me!" and "It's OK to Be Different." We talked about how God made us all a little different. We should be proud of who we are. The world would be boring and quite confusing if we all looked the same. We also talked about using manners at the table. I passed around some plates that had pictures of food that they might want to eat (Cheetos, Chocolate Chip Cookies) and something they would not want to eat (worms). They had to pass the plate to their neighbor and ask them, "Would you like some ______?" The neighbor would have to say, "Yes thank you," "Yes please," or "No thank you." They should never say "Yuk" to make the person feel bad.
Below, the children had to put a matching colored Unifix cube on a colored turkey. Once all the turkeys had a cube on them, they had to stack all the red cubes together, then stack all the green cubes, etc. The children were then asked to compare their colored stacks. Which color has the most cubes? Which has the least?
Our Thanksgiving Cards had the children practice using scissors. They had to cut strips of paper to decorate the border of their card.

To work their fine motor muscles I put out Tiddly Wink chips. They had to shoot the chip into the goal at the end of the table. This activity makes them use their pincer grasp on the chip. The same fingers we use for holding a pencil.
Thanks to Maya's Mom, we had some cute Turkey Crafts to make!
